It is our understanding that women experience unique and challenging issues due to their mental health propensity, as well as their biology and health risks, as well as their unique life transitions and roles in society.

Women can experience psychological distress at a far greater rate than men, and in different ways. For example women have a 1 in 3 chance of experiencing an anxiety disorder in Australia, and a 1 in 6 chance of experiencing a depressive disorder. They are more likely to experience OCD and eating disorders. Women have a unique presentation in domestic violence, and sexual assault. They experience routinely different health issues, for example related to reproduction, immunology and oncology. They also experience specifically different issues and pressures related to life transitions, such as puberty, pregnancy, motherhood, and menopause/ageing. Their experience of inequality, disenfranchisement and isolation are distinctly different to men. At Therapeia it is our focus to consider this unique presentation, and to cater a tailored approach to each female on her specific issues, whilst bringing an expertise in women’s health.

We also recognise the inherent strength and resources within women, their unique skills and gifts, and aim to encourage and enhance their own resilience and fortitude during times of distress and self-exploration.
